Sharing your favourite trails is a wonderful feeling – and something that can really improve access to the outdoors for your friends, club mates, students or the wider cycling community.
Who Is It For?
The course is ideal for anyone who wants to lead groups using mixed road and off-road environments. This might include rides that are already taking place but require development and insurance, or perhaps you are looking to organise an activity for your school, college, activity centre – or simply a group of friends.
Remit
Your remit would be to lead on terrain that ranges from the urban fringe and gravel tracks through to open countryside, woodland and most trail centre blue routes.
What is Covered?
- Learn leadership principles and skills from the most experienced mountain bike tutors in the country.
- Get the most out of your route planning with a dedicated module.
- Keep rolling with the knowledge to fix simple trailside repairs.
- Be prepared with plans to manage accidents and emergencies – plus you’ll undergo first aid training in order to qualify.
- Leader insurance.
The course will be run from Coed Y Brenin and will be over 2 days.
This course is run over two days.
Course Information
Before your course
- Please complete our Rider Information Form for each participant.
- Ensure that you have registered on the British Cycling MTB Leadership Scheme
Location and Timings
- The postcode for Coed y Brenin is LL40 2HZ.
- The Course will start at 9 am and will finish no later than 6pm
- Your tutor will meet you in the classrooms at the side of the Visitor’s Centre.
- Please arrive no more than 15 minutes before the start of the session.
What to bring on the Day
- A clean bike and helmet in good condition
- Trail tools and spares for your bike.
- A rucsac.
- Suitable clothing for the conditions.
- Spare layers.
- Gloves and glasses.
- Bike Lights
- Notebook and pen
- British Cycling resources received on registration.
- Food / Water. Day 1 will be classroom based until after lunch. Day 2 and 3 (for Level 3) will take place mainly on the trails and suitable food will need to be carried. There is a café but no cooking facilities on site.
What does the course include?
- 3-4 hours of elearning via British Cycling Learning
- 16 hours training and assessment course with a British Cycling Accredited Provider
What is on the site?
- Beics Brenin. A fully stocked shop with bikes for hire. Hire bikes must be booked by the client before the course.
- A Café serving hot and cold food.
- Changing rooms, showers and toilets.
- Car park – as you are on a course with us you will receive a 50% discount on the parking rates. To get this rate you will need to pay at the Visitor Centre’s desk rather than at the machine, letting them know that you are on a course with Pedal MTB.
