The Level 3 Mountain Bike Leadership Award is aimed at experienced, Level 2 or TCL qualified leaders who are ready to take the next step. Level 3 Leaders will create inspiring and long-lasting experiences, operating in remote environments and on physically demanding trails of high technical difficulty.
The Level 3 Mountain Bike Leadership Award particularly focuses on leading groups in remote technical terrain. The three-day training course builds upon the skills and knowledge gained at Level 2, along with the following areas:
- advanced trailside repairs
- route planning and navigation strategies for technical terrain
- group management in technical terrain
- risk assessment
- managing accidents and emergencies
- promoting hydration and nutrition
- methods for developing attentional focus.

Course Information
Before your course
- Please complete our Rider Information Form for each participant.
- Ensure that you have registered on the British Cycling MTB Leadership Scheme
Location and Timings
- The postcode for Coed y Brenin is LL40 2HZ.
- The Course will start at 9 am and will finish no later than 6pm
- Your tutor will meet you in the classrooms at the side of the Visitor’s Centre.
- Please arrive no more than 15 minutes before the start of the session.
What to bring on the Day
- A clean bike and helmet in good condition
- Trail tools and spares for your bike.
- A rucsac.
- Suitable clothing for the conditions.
- Spare layers.
- Gloves and glasses.
- Bike Lights
- Notebook and pen
- British Cycling resources received on registration.
- Food / Water. Day 1 will be classroom based until after lunch. Day 2 and 3 (for Level 3) will take place mainly on the trails and suitable food will need to be carried. There is a café but no cooking facilities on site.
Training Programme Level 2 and 3
- Both courses will start with classroom based sessions, leading into work on trail side repairs. There is no need to be in riding gear and time will be made to allow riders to change before riding.
- All riders are asked to bring the following to the start of the course:
- Clean bike
- Trail tools (we have tools that can be borrowed for the course)
- BC Resources
- Pen and notebook
What is on the site?
- Beics Brenin. A fully stocked shop with bikes for hire. Hire bikes must be booked by the client before the course.
- A Café serving hot and cold food.
- Changing rooms, showers and toilets.
- Car park – as you are on a course with us you will receive a 50% discount on the parking rates. To get this rate you will need to pay at the Visitor Centre’s desk rather than at the machine, letting them know that you are on a course with Pedal MTB.
